About Me

back to home page

Katie Atikian is an antique dealer and writer living in Southern California. Although she has her law degree and has passed the California Bar, she would rather avoid that profession for her full time employment! She has studied antique appraisal at the College for Appraisers in Southern California, where she received her first A+ of her adult life -- in the Jewelry class, of course! She is currently working on a book about (what else?!) copper jewelry made by Renoir of California. Recently, the December 2001 issue of the magazine VINTAGE FASHION & COSTUME JEWELRY featured her article on Copper Jewelry by Renoir of California as their cover story.

In addition, Katie has written three novels and numerous children's books. She is in the process of self-publishing a middle-grade novel entitled ARMIG & SAYAT NOVA, which takes place in ancient Armenia. It is a story about a young boy who learns to gain confidence in himself, and learns that he can make his dreams come true.

Katie does appraisals of personal property, antiques & collectibles professionally as well. A proper appraisal involves extensive research, must be in writing, and the items to be appraised must be examined in person by the appraiser. An oral "appraisal" with no research is NOT an appraisal. You may contact Katie at katerooa@aol.com if you wish to have a professional appraisal done.

As of June 2003, Katie is also a docent at the Sam & Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts & Crafts in Alta Loma, CA. Sam Maloof, renouned woodworker & furniture designer, built a marvelous home over the course of about 50 years. Tours take place on Thursdays and Saturdays. You may make a reservation by contacting the foundation at malooffoundation@earthlink.net. Below is a photo taken in August of 2003 of myself with Sam. Ironically enough, Sam has a dog named Kubre (the Spanish word for . . . Copper!); Kubre was running around us at the time of this photo.

The PRISM Awards is the entertainment industry's annual recognition of accurate portrayals of drug, alcohol & tobacco use & addiction. 2003 will mark the PRISM Awards' seventh year, and fourth year of television syndication. The presentation is taped live in LA each spring. In 2002 it was taped at CBS, but aired on various television stations throughout the country in August. In 2003, it was taped at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theater in Hollywood, and aired on the FX Network in May. I had the pleasure of attending with my friend, Dave, who was a judge for this event.

Here is a photo taken prior to the awards show. That's an Eisenberg necklace and a Rebajes bracelet on me.
